Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu  (Q&A)

Who Are We?

Answer: We are here to preserve the art of (Modern) Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu.  We are here to make sure that the art maintains its integrity, and the Instructors and Students ranked within these pages know how to perform the techniques properly. Without a system of checks and balances, within this art or any art, the techniques would become corrupted and lost over time.  The Samurai of Ancient Japan maintained and improved a series of techniques for over 1000 years.  We will not lose ours over the next 100 years!

Who is Master Nate Wesner?

Answer: Master Nate Wesner is not only the Director of the Official Ranking site for Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, and a Certified Master in Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, but also the Director of THE INSTITUTE OF JUJITSU STUDIES (I.J.S.).  He is a Certified Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Instructor, under Professor Rogerio "Tatu" Taborda from Southern Brazil.  He is also the ONLY Student/Instructor under Master Jeff Moore to test through the entire Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu belt system from Green Belt through 4th Degree Black Belt, and a personal student of Master Jeff Moore's for well over a decade.

Why is there such a strict ranking structure on the Official Ranking site?

Answer: It has been brought to my attention that there are individuals ranking in the art that do not even know the BASIC techniques up to the Shodan Level.  For example, if you are being Certified as a Nidan (2nd Degree Black Belt) in Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, and you do not know how to do the techniques off of the Brown Belt board, you need to re-evaluate your rank!!!!

Is this Official recognition and listing being created to punish other Instructors and Students?

Answer: NO, on the contrary, this Official recognition and listing is being created to preserve the art of Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu, the techniques, and the Instructors and Students that have legitimately and diligently worked to achieve the rank they currently hold.

How do I achieve the Official Ranking by Certificate and Listing?

Answer: We are setting up a subscription site (www.yoshinryujujitsu.university) with all of the techniques up to the Shodan Level on it.  You will be able to rank in person or by way of video up to the Student Black Belt Level.  When you are ready to achieve your Shodan Level, (1st Degree Black Belt Level), you must come to the Main Academy and test in person.  You may also sign up for several intense training days at the Main Academy before testing for your rank.

I see 2 new belt levels up to Shodan Level, why were they added?

Answer: First of all, it should take a Student from 3 to 5 years to rank up to the Shodan Level in Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu.  You may not rank in 6 - 12 months by video.  You can start a Student on the adult boards at age 12.  However, they must be age 16 before they can obtain Shodan Level ranking.  We've taken some basic (and necessary) techniques off of the Nidan Level, and transferred them to the lower belts to make our Shodan's more well rounded in the art.  We've added some more modern techniques to the Nidan Level to make the Instructor studying at this level more advanced.  We have also taken some of the techniques off of the Nidan Level that would be ineffective in actual combat!  The world evolves and so must we!
